What kind of mask are you wearing today?

Had a really fun shoot today with model Jamie Litster and MUA Natalie Guest, both of whom where truly lovely and fantastic to work with.

Jamie, eating roses - as one does.

The window I found in the garage at my granny's house, there were loads of them just piled up so I nabbed that one and we carried it all over the garden. (:

The Castle

So, yesterday was my very exciting shoot at a fantastic castle in Kent.

I'd spent weeks sewing these huge net skirts and they turned out really nicely, which was fantastic.
It was an great shoot with Hannah and Izzy, and we had a great time messing about.
Anyway, photoshoot means an excuse for behind the scenes shots, so here we go!

Here's Hannah, being gorgeous as ever! I made that skirt from scratch, better picture of it below.

Hannah again- talking to a crocodile, as you do! You can see the skirt in it's full (see-through) glory here! I was so proud of myself for styling all of the outfits for this by myself! As well ask making lots of bits for them. I also did Hannah's hair, which was an achievement because, having had short hair for the majority of my life, I have issues with touching other people's hair!

Camped out in our base upstairs, Hanah checking out some of the first photos while Izzy gets ready to be a gnome. And then some simple messing around at lunch, where these two got such odd looks!

Then we wandered outside and decided it would be fun to see how far across a tree branch Hannah could climb without falling into the water... All in the name of photography!

And then we threw some garden gnomes around Izzy... (That's my mum on the right, she decided to come along.)

The final look, Izzy was a utter saint to do. She has a huge phobia of spiders but we stuck her in a dingy cellar with cobwebs everwhere!

Italy!

Yo!

Italy was Amazing, with a capital 'A'.

I'm so exhausted, but I'll share a couple of photos with you - they're all snapshots but they're also all pretty nice. :)

Photo of Tiff and Lauren, examining Lauren's camera.

Lauren.. Can you see me in her sunglasses? :)

Trees.. I thought they were pretty... There's a reason why I'm not a landscape photographer!

Mr. C, our art and HoA teacher - wearing the hat we bought him as a 'thank you for the trip' present. It says Richie on it (His first name is Richard!).

Mr C, being Mr C like!

I will write something proper when I have more energy, or I will mean to at least!

Tomorrow I have a HUUUUUGE photoshoot at a Castle in York, so BTS will be posted for that shortly. :)

Outfit Searching

Living in London, it's shameful to say that I've never truly taken advantage of London's many, many charity shops before.
On Thursday, Izzy and I - armed with a list of recommended charity shops, compiled from lots and lots of websites - ventured into 'The City' and went shopping!

Bought a number of things, with an upcoming Elemental shoot in mind, none of which are special enough to take photos of to show you.
HOWEVER, there was one fantastic purchase, made at the last shop we visited. I'd read that it was well known for having a large number of unwanted prom and wedding dresses. And, although it didn't seem to have anything fantastic when we walked in, we rummaged through the rails - pretty much so that Izzy could berate me for having brought her there when she wanted to be at home.
But then, I found this - an old bridesmaid's dress, marked for a little under £15.

As you can see, it's clearly meant for a child, but Izzy - hatefully small that she is - managed to fit easily into it. There's a few stains, but nothing that can't be worked around!

I was EXHAUSTED when I got home, but my mum decided that it would be a good time to go to Selfridges and 'The Ribbon Shop' - Selfridges so I could spend a (late) birthday present from Serena, a £50 token and 'The Ribbon Shop' (Not actually called that...) so that we could get some ribbon to make some costumes for this Elemental shoot.

We bought some ribbons and feather frills and all kinds of lovely things, but I wasn't in 'the mood' that I feel you have to be in to really enjoy the experience that is shopping in Selfridges - also, I was dressed like a tramp as there is some kind of conspiracy theory going on in my house, where people hide my clothes...

BUT, what we did buy, was this, my new baby:

I've been saying how much I want a tripod for AGES, and I decided that then would be a good time to get it. Theoretically, I could've spent the token on this but didn't think of that, so split the cost with mum. It was much cheaper than I was expecting it to be, actually, and has a nifty spiritlevel included, which just makes me giggle.

And, to end this long and well-rambled blog, here's a photo of my current work space:

Watching 'Genius' on BBC iPlayer, on my laptop, and drawing on and cutting out photos for my inspiration scrapbook - as you do! That space against the sofa is where I was sitting. <3

Feather Girl behind the scenes!

Wednesday afternoons are officially known as 'Merry's art afternoon'.
It's that time of the week when I grab members of my art class, dress and make them up and dub them models.

After the photos I did with Hannah and Izzy, people are volunteering - which makes it a lot easier! I didn't even have to bully anyone into letting me dribble lipgloss down their face, which was a surprise!

Neva was adamant that she would get to do the 'feather girl' shoot, which was fine with me! We spent about an hour getting her ready, I got very covered in glue and feathers - but then so did she!
The dress and belt were bought separately off ebay, but came to less than £5 together, which I was pleased about. The feathers were a fantastic buy that only cost $40, unfortunately, about $30 of that was shipping! There were a bunch more different feathers that we didn't't use, might have to save those for another day!

Anyway, here are some behind the scenes photos for the day!

Cat was lovely and did Neva's hair - having short hair, I really struggle to create hairstyles for people. That, and hair freaks me out a little...

Another WIP of the hair - before the addittion of many many feathers!

There was very very little sun, and a lot of wind. And the feather fringe that we were using as a collar kept on flying about and getting stuck in Neva's lipgloss...

In search of sun! Katie came out and joined us. (Because I'd overrun and Katie was waiting to go home with me and borrow a dress...)

Because we're cool like that.
And not immature at all!

And some finished photos!...
